DESCRIPTION:Energy Star 3.1 for Contractors: Green Built Alliance Fall 2023 Workshops \n\n\n\nThis class will serve as an introduction for contractors to certifying homes through the Energy Star system for efficient construction. Homes certified through this system must be strict building performance standards. This class will familiarize builders with the certification system and the recent changes. \n\n\n\nParticipants will leave the class with an understanding of the following: \n\n\n\n\nThe process for getting a home certified\n\n\n\nTricky checklist items that builders struggle with\n\n\n\nHow the reference home has changed\n\n\n\nBest “pickup opportunities” to meet Energy Star\n\n\n\nKey house characteristics that make it harder to meet Energy Star\n\n\n\n\nThis course has been approved as a two-hour elective course eligible for continuing-education credit through the North Carolina Licensing Board for General Contractors. The hours additionally apply toward Green Built Alliance’s Regenerative Professional Accreditation. The class may also meet continuing-education criteria for other organizations; please email danny@greenbuilt.org with questions related to qualifying for continuing education. \n\n\n\nInstructor bio:  \n\n\n\nAmy Musser is a co-owner and co-founder of Vandemusser Design\, PLLC. The company has been operating in Asheville since 2004\, and providing green-building design\, consulting and home-energy rating services since 2006. The majority of their clients are general contractors who are building above-code homes certified according to Green Built Homes\, Energy Star or LEED for Homes. They also work with homeowners\, architects and HVAC installers. Amy Musser has bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in architectural engineering\, and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering\, all from The Pennsylvania State University. She is a licensed mechanical engineer in North Carolina and a RESNET-certified Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater.

DESCRIPTION:American Institute of Architects AIA – Asheville Section – continues its annual Where Building Science Meets Climate Science professional development series designed to build proficiencies related to climate change and architecture.  \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme: Defining Regenerative Design \n\n\n\nEach year the program brings together world-renown climate scientists\, architects\, and engineers to provide insight on how their professions are addressing the changing climate. \n\n\n\nThe program has an on-line option for those who prefer a virtual experience.  \n\n\n\nThursday\, November 2nd: \n\n\n\nPublic reception and networking session at 5:15-6:00 pm followed at 6-7 pm with a presentation from Jennifer Todd and Philip Donovan\, with Little Diversified  Architectural Consulting. \n\n\n\nThursday evening’s public lecture is free\, (donations accepted)\, and all community members are invited to attend. One AIA HSW Continuing Education credit hour is expected. \n\n\n\nFriday\, November 3rd: \n\n\n\nFriday\, the conference continues at The Collider with a full day of in-depth presentations aimed at professional architects\, designers\, planners\, construction experts\, and regenerative design enthusiasts.  \n\n\n\nRegistration and breakfast from 8:15 am to 8:45 am. A catered lunch is included in the registration fee. The program will wrap with a panel discussion and Q & A session with the speakers.
