Lowering the Energy Burden for Buncombe CountyReducing Energy Costs for Low-Income Households in WNC.
Providing energy-efficiency upgrades and home repairs for low-income homes with the help of our dedicated volunteers, and funding from city, county, Duke Energy, and private donations.
How Energy Savers Network serves our Community.
Energy Savers Network is based on the basic idea that we can fight pollution and climate change by acting in our own communities in ways that provide lasting benefits to our most vulnerable and energy burdened neighbors. We provide an energy assessment and weatherization service that results in demonstrated savings through measures like air sealing, water saving fixtures, LED light bulbs, etc. For many clients we are then able to follow up with more extensive home repairs (health and safety repairs, appliance replacement, and heating and cooling system repairs) through the Helping Home Fund. Our volunteers also benefit by making a positive contribution to their community and planet and by learning techniques to save energy in their own lives.

The Many Voices of our Clients & Volunteers
“Having the team from Energy Savers come to our house to help us save money on our electric bill was definitely a great thing to do. I loved the commitment and effort they put in everything they were doing and how they explained in detail the process of weatherizing our home. I hope more people in the community take advantage of this great opportunity.”
“I’m so happy that Energy Savers came out to our house! I couldn’t believe how much they found to do. I’m excited to see how much it brings down my energy bill! The volunteer team was friendly and polite, and the team leader was super knowledgeable and professional.”
“Volunteering with Energy Savers has taught me so much! As a Realtor, it’s fascinating to see how minor home improvements can make such an impact on energy conservation. And as a buyer agent and GBA Board Member, I feel more empowered to pass along these helpful tips to homebuyers.”
“As a grandmother of three, I am grateful for the wonderful services of groups like Energy Savers Network. They weatherized our home for winter– things like weather stripping, caulking, energy saver light bulbs, cracks, etc. This is a free service with a group of volunteers that they train onsite to complete the needs. Their help has made our home warmer and more comfortable while saving us money on our energy bills. Thank you for coming into my home!”
“I’m very thankful to all the volunteers who took the time away from their daily lives to help because not everyone does that. This winter, my house stayed much warmer and I paid less money on my energy bill – by about $350. I’m also very happy with the new front door and storm door that was installed as well as the floor repairs. Now my house feels more safe.”
“Tony repaired my plumbing, I got a water heater and dehumidifier. I’m able to have heat now because I didn’t before and I’m grateful for that. Tony goes above and beyond to make sure the job gets done right. If it wasn’t for him I’d still be out sleeping in the car”.
“So grateful to ESN. They were kind and helpful and really made a change in the efficiency of my home. I’ve noticed a change in my power bill and the house just feels more insulated. The staff were respectful of my space, very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions along the way. I was blown away with the amount of improvements they made. Feels good to know that even as a low income family that our footprint is a little less thanks to ESN.”
“Daniel and Kelvin came today and helped my family tremendously with our home. They were so kind, understanding, not judgemental and worked some miracles. Because of this program my family now has sealed windows, our front and back doors are airtight when shut, and my home already feels much warmer! They’re a huge blessing! I highly recommend giving them a call to get assistance with your home, did I mention all of their help is FREE!”
“I am so blessed to have them come into my life. They all worked hard and done the entire house. The volunteers were awesome too. They got here early, worked late. I would recommend this organization to anyone who needs help. They went above the call of duty. And the nicest people you would ever meet. God bless all that was here and everyone involved.”
“It feels good to give back. You’ll be working on older homes and trailers for the most part, and it makes you appreciate how far building science has come over the years. Plus, they don’t ask you to go into the attic or the crawlspace, so that is a big plus.”
Your contribution combined with our utility funding makes our program possible.
Every dollar donated to Energy Savers leverages our per job funding from Duke Energy Progress. As a Duke Energy Qualified Weatherization Provider we get paid for every low-income family that we help using a formula approved by the NC Utility Commission based on the value of each measure that we install. This includes an hourly rate for the air sealing time of our staff and volunteers. However, there are MANY more costs not paid by Duke that we must pay for through other means. This is where donors like you come in. Your donation helps locally to lower the energy cost of your low-income neighbors while bringing in funds to our community from our utility partners, as well as globally to reduce the impacts of climate change.
…and/or you can volunteer your time
Make a direct impact by going with us to client homes on workdays. This usually involves a 3-5 hours at a time. Develop your energy saving skills while you help your neighbor.
Once you are thoroughly familiar with our services, you can help us recruit clients and volunteers. This involves tabling at events, visiting social service organizations, canvassing, and scheduling clients.
Fundraising or Join our Board
You can get even more deeply involved. Financial support is critical to leverage funds from our utility partners, and we are always looking for motivated board members.
