“On September 27th when WNC was ravished by Hurricane Helene the flood waters devastated my neighborhood. I had to evacuate & didn’t know when I could return to see my home standing or not. Fortunately I was very blessed because only the ductwork to my hvac/heating unit was destroyed along with my floor insulation. The Energy Savers Network folks were able to fix the crumbled duct work. This sounds easy enough but on the contrary it was no small undertaking that took a full day and a half. I am no longer heating the entire space under my house & saving money once again. “We was referred through the HOP program. We couldn’t figure out why our electric was so high and Energy Savers Network came out and really worked their magic. They did a blower door test to check where air was coming in at. We had no idea there was so many places that needed attention. So what they done was caulk around the windows, put up weatherstripping on all doors, seal around the piping, and changed out all light bulbs and shower heads in both bathrooms, as well as fixed the heating vents. We can already tell a big difference in how our home stays so much warmer now. I would truly recommend ESN to everyone I know.”

The window inserts are just excellent!! Unlike the plastic “storm windows” with opaque plastic film, the window inserts are almost invisible and do a really good job of sealing the cracks in old window frames. “Energy Savers Network is awesome. I qualified for winterizing in my home, free of charge from the Energy Savers Network (ESN) and I was thrilled to get the help. I’m an artist and sometimes can’t make ends meet, so they helped me in lowering my utility bills by being energy efficient. ESN was able to measure my windows and within 3-4 weeks they installed conveniently to use window insulation treatments, insulation behind wall outlets, in heat ducts and doorways. They also had one of their team members walk and talk me around my home discussing ways I could increase my energy savings. It was very helpful and they made me feel like a person and not just someone looking for a handout. They were kind, professional and easy to communicate with. Energy Savings Network really goes beyond just helping people, they show that they care too and go the extra mile to make sure of that. Great organization. “In the 1980’s, when architectural recyclables were still affordable in Western NC, my husband John and I designed our own home and built it ourselves. Since two of our goals were to save energy and money, we recycled and reused construction materials whenever possible. John paid $125 for 21 gorgeous 125-year-old windows from Montreat Anderson College. He restored them, and they have made our home unique and beautiful for decades. They have also posed challenges in cold weather. They function like air conditioning in summer but during chilly months, large, single-paned windows are very drafty. We invented quilted coverings for them which shielded us from the worst of the cold but also kept out the light. Our house was a dark cave from November through March. Not a big deal as long as we had jobs, away from home, but when we retired, the dark was depressing. For our psychological welfare, we had to keep some windows uncovered, resulting in more uncomfortable drafts, harder to bear as we aged. Then, in 2018, we connected with Energy Savers Network, a local non-profit dedicated to helping people with our challenges. Soon after we requested their help, Energy Savers Network folk were carefully measuring the perimeter of our windows. In another week or two, they have made us amazing, custom, interior storm windows – clear plastic stretched tightly inside extremely lightweight, metal frames. Then they installed them for us, on the inside, just in time for the first cold spell. Storm windows that are easy for us to remove or install. Best of all, our rooms are now draft-free, warm as toast and full of light. Another bonus – Energy Savers Network folk renewed our old, ineffective weather stripping and changed our light bulbs to LEDs. They’ve reinvented winter! Every day since we’ve been grateful for this totally free blessing.” — Victoria and John Maddux
